Not every day is sunshine and beautiful colors
Scrolling through instagram, tik-tok or whatever social platform you fancy and you’ll probably end up wondering why you’re missing out on all these magical sunsets and beautiful hikes. Well if you haven’t figured it out yet, here it is: your’e not missing out on anything.
The truth is that even though social media would like you to think that life is just a series of magical shiny moment all lined up in a never ending flow it just doesn’t work that way.
Sure enough if you like to experience these moments you better pack your gear and head on outside because it’s not going to happen by it self. But be prepared, you’re going to miss more than you hit, be it a cloudy sky blocking all the colors och a hail shower preventing you from unpacking your camera at all.
Sure some people are just lucky and visit a place once and end up with magical conditions and awesome photos, hell some even fake it I photoshop, replacing the sky and editing in massive colors. The rest of us, we’re stuck with the glorious task of returning to the same place over and over again. Hoping to get that extra glow in the sky or the leafs in the perfect autumn yellow.
It can be tiresome sometimes, especially if you have to travel far to reach your photo spot. But there is one major advantage and a huge benefit of going out over and over again, and that is that we get to create memories! The kind of memories that will last you a lifetime non the less. Like when I blew a turbo house half way home from Lofoten and me and my buddy tried to fix it with rubber tape and it just ended up sounding like a screaming pig under the hood.
Or as in this trip in 2024 when me and my friend decided to make a go for the peak of the mountain Ryten in Lofoten. The weather was really bad but we waited for a pause in the rain and headed out. Halfway upp the mountain we realised the wind was being funnelled through the pass and when we couldn’t even stay on the trail because of the wind and sida way rain we decided to turn back. About half way down, a very social cat decided to join us on the trail. All of the sudden the wet feet and completely soaked trousers didn’t bother us as much as we stayed in line behind the cat that was in no hurry to get of this mountain.

Sure, the next day the rain was gone and we got some great shots at another location. And while I’ll always have the photos to remind me of that sunny day, the feelings and memories of that day with the stormy hike and the cat guiding us down the mountain will always be a much more powerful memory.
So remember to treasure the true memories and not just social media moments. The not-so-perfect memories are the ones that will stay with you . . .
